I know that my fellow young disciples are sometimes, more often than not from what I’ve seen, overlooked. Undermined. Passed over for responsibility. Belittled. When you do something wrong, people laugh or say something like “Yeah we knew they couldn’t do it, they’re too young”. When you do something right, people are quick to find other reasons for your success: “She got help from her parents” “They used the Internet” “He used his father’s work friends” or other things like that. This can be so disheartening for us. It’s almost like, no matter how hard we try, we will never get the recognition or the credit we actually deserve. But, remember this my fellow young disciples:
“Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
Paul knows that other members of the church will scoff at Timothy because of his youth. He is telling him to expect it and to rise above it. Show your church, your friends, your elders, your Bible Study groups, that you can follow Christ. My brothers and sisters, like Paul says, be an example to all other believers. Not to spite them or try and be better than them. But to show them that Christ is for the young people as well. To show that you CAN walk this path. I know you can. I believe that you have the potential inside of you to do it.
More to come…
